Living with your older brother was hard. It really was. You had to depend on him for everything. Finding clothes, cooking, finding your room.

You were ashamed. Multiple times you heard his spouse complaining on why you were living in their house.

It wasn't your fault.

Wasn't your fault that you were blind...

You weren't born blind, no. As you grew up, you began to notice how your vision became blurry.

Frightened, you informed your parents and they had purchased some 'focals for you.
Courtesy from Ben Franklin.

Years passed as your vision grew fogger and fogger.

Eventually, you became blind.

"She has cataracts." The doctor said.

You cursed your inability.

Today, your brother was nice enough to raise his dog to help you around New York. You had a cane of course, but the dog was much more fun to use than your cane.

"Let's go girl." You called out, patting your legs. You listened for the dog's paws padding against the wooden floors. You had no idea what her name was, but you didn't really care.

"Where are you off to?" Your brother laughed, leaning against the...door? You chuckled.

"Just to walk around." You answered, reaching forward to find the door. Your brother watched you in silence as you tried to find the doorknob.

After a few minutes of struggle, your brother sighed and grabbed your wrist, guiding it to the knob. You pursed your lips, but thanked him.

"Of course, sister. Don't go out so late." He warned. You nodded and grabbed the rope leash restraining the dog. She whimpered as you tugged.

"Take me to the city." You murmured, holding on tightly.

This dog knew how you felt and meant. Special connections run deep for something you didn't care for.

She started to walk slowly, carefully leading you into the center of New York. You hummed, trusting your life with a mutt. She turned left and you followed.

You bumped into someone and you apologized.

"Are you blind?" He hissed. You laughed.

"Yessir, I am, in fact." You smiled. He stuttered and walked away, unsure on how to reply. You assumed he walked away, that is.

Your dog barked, probably telling you that you have arrived in the center of town. You grinned and reached forward and tired to pet her. Moments of aimlessly searching for her head, you found it and patted her.

"Good doggie. Good, goodie. Doggie." You hummed, scratching her ears. You knew she absolutely loved it.

You felt a few rumbling steps.

"Haha, do you have money?"

"We want to buy some food, miss."

"A coin?"

You frowned. They were street boys, raised in poor families. They probably didn't notice you were disabled, seeing how they still eagerly raised their hands for money.

Not like you would see.

"Ah. Of course." You sighed. Despite how annoying they are, they are still growing boys.

You reached over to your pouch, sitted at your left side. You opened the flap and reached in, feeling for three pieces of gold. You reached out and handed them to one boy.

"Hand them equally. No hogging." You warned. He cheered and did so. He handed them to his comrades and fled.

One stayed behind. You could still feel his very presence.

"What?" You barked. He flinched and backed up.

"Are you blind?" He asked. His tone was curious and gentle, not harsh and disgusted. You was shocked.

You began to stutter. "Uh, y-yes. I am." You replied, wondering how this boy looked like. He looked down.

"You can have your coin back."

"It's alright, keep it." You smiled. He shook his head and remembered that you couldn't see.

"You need to pay for medication! And all of those doctor people." He protested, grabbing your hand and placing the coin in your palm. He closed it and looked up.

You were...quite touched by him as you smiled.

"I insist. Buy some candy. Or food. You deserved that much for showing me kindness." You assured, patting his head. He sighed and regretfully accepted the coin again.

Just about when you were about to walk away, he spoke again.

"You lonely?" He asked, pulling onto your sleeve. You shrugged, tightening your grip onto your leash. Mutt was quite quiet and respectful today.

"I suppose."

His eyes widened with excitement. "Please! Follow me!" He laughed, pulling your sleeve and running. You gasped and you tired to keep up, the darkness not helping.

"Where...where are you taking me?!' You shouted. He just kept laughing and laughing. You could feel the mutt running next to you, growling and baring her teeth.

"Almost to the exit!"

"Exit? Exit of New York?" You screamed. He giggled in response. You took that as a yes.

Minutes as aimless walking, he finally stopped near a tree.

"Sir? I found the girl." He shouted, gripping onto your wrist. You scowled.

"Where are we? Why are we here?" You growled. Of course. You were tricked by a boy.

"In the frontier. Somewhere. I was here to show you someone." He grinned. You huffed and folded your arms in dismay. How were you to come home?

"Jack? What are you doing out here?" A voice called out.

From above you. You gasped.

"Hiya Connor! You rememebered you were tryin' to build up your Brotherhood thing, so I went around and tried finding people!" 'Jack' replied. You hissed.

"No need to capture me, kid." You growled. He ignored you and ran up to the tree this Connor was at.

"So! Did I help ya?" He smiled, his 8 year old grin directed to Connor. Connor sighed.

"You don't...take people from here. You let them help you and you offer. Offer, Jack. You offer." He sighed. He hopped off the tree, ignoring the kid's pout and complains and walked to you.

"I...have to apologize for his reckless behavior. He is not like this." Connor said, apologizing with a glare to said child. He grumbled.

"I will accept your apology...Connor was it?" You asked, confirming your assumption. He nodded.

You waited for him to respond. He did the same.

"Uh, Mister Connor? She's blind." Jack informed, tugging on Connor's robes. He blinked.

"Oh, my apologies again. Yes, I am Connor." He replied. You nodded.

"Can you take me back to New York?" You pleaded, pulling on the mutt's rope again. She trotted over.

"Of course. But before you go-"

"Connor can take you around here and sight-see!" Jack exclaimed, running over. He hopped onto Connor's back and squealed. Connor grunted in surprise.

"I believe she would like to go home, Jack." He said gently, patting the kid's head. He pouted. You just shrugged.

"I can't see. Why go sight seeing if I can't see?!" You asked, jabbing your finger in their general direction.

Connor shifted on his feet as Jack grinned sheepishly.

"He can take you Forest Feeling." Jack offered. Connor shushed him.

"It's alright. Sorry, he just wanted help-"

"What is Forest Feeling?" You asked, stomping on your foot. Jack giggled.

"It's when Connor takes you around here and let's you touch everything! And eat what's okay." Jack exclaimed, remembering when Connor found him near an abandoned cabin. Connor grumbled.

"Take me." You insisted, dropping the leash. Mutt's ears rose and she suddenly bolted away. You didn't move.

"Your dog." Connor stated. You grinned.

"Don't care. Can you take me Forest Feeling?" You asked, giving him a hopeful look. He smiled and agreed.

"Sure. Jack has to stay-"

"He can come." You smiled. Jack cheered. Connor sighed.

"Alright, let's go. What's your name?" He asked, turning to you. You smirked.

"(Y/n) (L/n)." You replied. He nodded.

"Nice name." He said. You nodded in thanks.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"This is a raccoon's fur." Connor said, handing you a pelt of fur. You giggled.

"It tickles!" You laughed. He chuckled too.

"Yes, but a hare's fur is soft, too." He added. You nodded.

"What next, 'Masta?" Jack asked, bored. Connor sighed and smacked the back of his head.

"Where do you want to go?" Connor asked Jack. He hummed.

"Take her to the flower bed." He replied. You laughed.

"I am not fond of flowers." You admitted.

"Do they make you sick?" He asked. You shook your head.

"No, but I prefer the comfort of books."

"Even though you can read." Jack added. You sighed and agreed.

Connor groaned and proceeded to scold Jack, telling him about manners and discipline.

"It's alright, Connor. It's true. Show me the flowers." You laughed. You blindly walked and found his hand, grasping it. He looked and stared.

"We walking yet?" Jack said impatiently, pushing the two of you forward. You sighed.

"Well, it's right there." Connor reminded him, pointing forward with his free hand. Jack rolled his eyes.

"Yes, yes I know. Past the riverbed with rocks of different colors and-"

"A riverbed?" You interrupted. Jack said yes.

"Take me there! Please!" You cried, pulling onto Connor's sleeve. He sighed and agreed.

"Of course, (y/n). I will take you there." Connor smiled. You cheered.

He was so kind...

"It's very beautiful. Everything just resonates together peacefully." Connor sighed. You smiled and nodded.

"Are you married?" Jack asked, poking out from underneath you. You blushed and laughed.

"No." You sighed. No one is willing to help you, that's why. Or maybe you're just very ugly....you just didn't know.

"When I grow up, I'm gonna marry you." He replied. You snorted.

"Trust me, by the time you're eligible to marry, my brother's kids will have kids."

Connor laughed. "And what makes you think she's not going to marry within those years?"

Jack scowled. "You're not helping. And it's not like you're going to marry her, Connor."

You frowned. What are they going on to?

Connor groaned. "Enough, Jack."

But he kept talking. "I mean, it was your plan to get her-"

"Oh look, the riverbed." Connor interuppted, glaring at Jack. He glared back.

You shifted uncomfortably.

"Where is the water?" You asked, hearing the sound of it, but not feeling the cool rush of breezes.

Connor silently led you to the calm waters and guided your hands down to the water.

You giggled and sighed at the cool touch. It was so nice and cold, refreshing.

Connor was glad you couldn't see him. He was staring at you right now.

Why? Why did he like you? Your disability proved to be difficult...and he had to move and leave quite often, leaving you to fend for yourself alone. And you just couldn't see, making you depend on him.

Oh, you could feel his burning eyes on your face. You made you uncomfortable and uneasy. You shifted slightly.

"Something wrong?" You asked. He sighed and leaned back.

"Jacks right. I did plan your so called capture." He admitted. You gasped.

"Am I a prisoner? Oh no. Oh god. Why?!" You panicked, standing up. You didn't move further than that since Connor grabbed your arms.

"No! Nothing like that." He sighed. You calmed a bit, tensed.

"I've seen you around New York, wandering around and returning home." He admits. You chuckled.

"Never seen you before." You laughed dryly. He laughed nervously.

"I wanted to talk to you, but uh, I didn't know how." He said. You laughed.

Awkwardly shy person? Socially shy?

"Too shy?" You grinned. He protested and huffed.

"I just didn't know how to talk to you." He sighed. You turned your head.

"I'm a killer." He sighed. You froze.

"Like a mercenary? That's...okay." You shuddered slightly. You hoped he wasn't a murderer who killed in cold blood. He shook his head quickly.

"No, I am an assassin." He stated. You laughed.

"You must be a banker or something!" You chuckled, not believing him. He huffed and grabbed your shoulders.

"Charles Lee? Dead. Thomas Hickey? Dead. Haytham Kenway? Dead! This is not a game." He hissed. Your eyes widened.

"You're the person who killed them?" You said, awed. He nodded, ready for you to flee and rat him out.

"Wow. That's amazing." You complemented, folding your arms. His eye twitched.

Seriously? You actually said that? Weird.

"Anyway, this riverbed is nice." You smiled. He stood next to you.

"It's generally pretty...strange." He admits, grabbing your hand. Your eyebrow raised.

"Why is it different today?" You asked. He shrugged, and you felt it.

"You're here to make it better." He smiles. You scoffed half-heartedly.

"I don't remember how I look like." You said. He shrugged.

"You're very attractive." He said. You didn't believe him.

"My eyes are glassy."

"Beautiful."

"I have strange hair.

"Silky and smooth." He said, touching it.

"I'm blind."

He blinked. "Why is that so bad?"

You moaned in annoyance. "Blind, Connor. There is no need for someone blind in this society."

He frowned. "In my home, every person is valuable, despite every flaw they believe they own."

You smiled weakly. "Yeah? Well, I think I may like your home."

"It's gone now, but I could take you there one day." He said. You smiled.

"I'd like that."

"Your blindness isn't a curse. It's a blessing...in a way." He whispers.

"How? How can this be a blessing?"

"You see things in a different way. You experience them differently. I would like to see...the way you see." He said.

You seriously wish this problem would go away and see this man. Were you dreaming? Does such a person exist? Why did you meet him? Is he real...? We'pre you dreaming?

If you woke up, you'd cry. If this was a dream, you'd never wake up.

"You can't be human." You sighed. "You're too nice...and respectable. And handsome." You added. He blinked.

"Handsome?" He asked. You nodded.

"You said I see things differently. I see you as handsome. In my way." You smiled. He shrugged.

"You know, I actually love you." He confessed. You laughed.

"Why are you so blunt and straightforward? I saw you as 'socially awkward man'." You snickered. How is he comfortable doing that?

He chuckled. "My mother told me...don't hold back when you love someone. It's a once in a life time thing. Say it now, while you can." He explained. You hummed.

"I think, think I love you. I'm not sure." You laughed. He smiled.

"That's alright. We have a lifetime to change that." He smiled.

You smiled back.
